Every two weeks, I meet with two friends for coffee, and we share how the Lord stretches us, how we struggle to walk in obedience, and the fears and longings of our hearts. It is a joy to meet with these friends, pray together, and intercede for one another.
At our most recent gathering, we each shared a word the Lord had impressed on our hearts. As we shared our word and what it meant, we marvelled at the unique ways the Lord was working and how our words connected.
The Spirit had impressed on one of us the word dwell. She is to dwell in the presence of the Lord, cherish that time and be fully present with Him. Another has found comfort and encouragement in the word anchor. As her world tilts and change abounds, her connection to the Lord, who never changes, sustains her. I’ve been given the word wait. Don’t rush ahead. Don’t seize control. Live each day as it comes and wait for the Lord to reveal my next steps. Then, we put the words together. How does waiting change when our anchor is the Lord, who holds firm in the fiercest storm? How does dwelling on God’s Word and filling our minds with His promises as we wait on Him, strengthen the anchor?
The anchor holds because the Lord is sovereign no matter how wild the storm. We can wait out the storm because His Word and Spirit assure us of His great love. Anxiety and impatience lift the more time we dwell on the promises of God, which fill us with peace. It’s a cycle that starts and ends with God.
What about you? What is your word? How do anchor, dwell, and wait impact you?
