Paul began his wonderful letter to the Christians in Ephesus with, This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.
It’s striking that, with all of the pressures on Paul’s life, he was steadfast. Steadfast in who he was. “I am Paul, chosen by the will of God to be …”
So I’m challenged to consider again who I am.
I am Pat, chosen by the will of God to be…
- a Mary, who knows the better way is to withdraw often from life’s busyness and sit at Jesus’ feet
- an instrument of His love and enablement to some older relatives
- a leader, leading with diligence (see Romans 12:8) some ministries and outreaches
- a team member, who strengthens the team with affirmation & creativity
- and various other roles
So it is with most of us. We have many roles. We need to remind ourselves that we are chosen by God for these roles. (Or if not, to make adjustments)
In all of this are you like me?
- Sometimes I feel exhilarated – “for this I was born!”
- Sometimes I feel burdened.
- Sometimes I feel impatient with the constraints – things that need doing before getting to the things I enjoy doing.
- Sometimes I wonder what the next year will include.
- And sometimes I’m aware of certain changes within myself – probably aging!
I am me. I am very very human. But I’m CHOSEN!
And my Father is close. He’s amazingly active in my life – even in the tiny details.
When I’m almost overcome with fatigue, the early morning habit of reciting Scripture portions recently memorized, acts like an infusion of a strong energy drink!
When I hear of His work in other parts of the world, I’m reminded that it’s His kingdom, and it’s His power that is working, often under the radar, but working mightily. And I’m encouraged that I’m part of a big big family!
When an amazing coincidence happens, I know that my Father walks before me, and knows the way that I take.
I’m human, with many weaknesses. But my Father, in his patience and love, chooses me!
And so I walk into the fray for today, empowered by the I AM!
What about you? Consider today: I am (your name), chosen by the will of God to be……
